The expressed purpose of Windward-Westward is to build deeper relationships with the natural world, and richer conversations around the table.

The means to achieve this goal has evolved a fair bit over the years.

Dave Allee started W-W as a blog in 2014... then in 2019 it evolved into a club... and as of 2023, the club experience expanded into a subscription box of wild food.

The jump from potluck dinner club to wild food subscription box was brought about during a conversation with Paul Greive, also known as Farmer Paul.

Paul has a dozen years of experience in regeneratively raised food and meat. (He's the co-founder of Primal Pastures and PastureBird.)

His statement to me, when we first met was: "the purpose of regenerative agriculture is to farm and ranch in nature's image... therefore, the only thing better than farmed in nature's image is truly wild food."

It has been a deep desire of Paul's to make wild food accessible to more families—having seen the tremendous benefit of better meat and poultry.

At some point during the conversation with Farmer Paul, there was a lightbulb moment that perhaps the wild food box was the perfect way to take all the good things we have loved about the potluck dinner club and multiply it, making it available for more folks to enjoy.

So, we got to work building a box that would unlock both the health and social benefits that we had each enjoyed from our respective paths.

The result is the Wild Harvest Box—a quarterly subscription of the very best untamed foods that nature has to offer.

The contents of the Wild Harvest Box will evolve with the seasons, but the aim of Windward-Westward remains unchanged: build deeper relationships with the natural world, and richer conversations around the table.
